The Indian Air Force (IAF) continues to bolster its operational capabilities with the recent activation of a crucial Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in the western sector. This strategic move, undertaken with the cooperation of various government agencies, significantly enhances India's national security posture.
The newly activated western sector ELF saw its first operations with the successful landings of the C-295 MW transport aircraft and the Tejas light combat aircraft. This historic event demonstrates the IAF's readiness to integrate new platforms and operate them from less traditional locations.
Alongside these modern aircraft, the ELF exercise also tested the capabilities of established members of the IAF fleet. Fighters like the Jaguar, transport aircraft such as the An-32 and Mi-17 V5 helicopters, as well as the Cheetah helicopter, performed vital operations. These included logistical airlifts, rapid loading and unloading of supplies, and turnaround servicing procedures.
The IAF's continued focus on activating Emergency Landing Facilities nationwide emphasizes its commitment to operational flexibility and preparedness. ELFs offer alternative landing locations in strategic areas, widening the IAF's reach and enhancing its ability to respond swiftly to potential threats.
