India and Greece to explore Co-Development and Co-Production of Weapon systems

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship during a recent meeting. Their discussions focused on three key areas: co-production of military hardware, enhanced mobility and migration cooperation, and collaboration on counter-terrorism measures.

Both leaders agreed to explore co-production of military equipment, potentially marking a significant step forward. This initiative could involve joint ventures, technology transfer, and knowledge sharing, boosting India’s defense manufacturing capabilities and fostering closer ties between the two nations.

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) emerged as a crucial discussion point. With the Greek port of Piraeus playing a pivotal role in IMEC, India sees Greece as a valuable partner in this initiative. IMEC aims to create a trade and transport network connecting India with Europe, potentially serving as a counterpoint to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Recognizing shared concerns and priorities in combating terrorism, Modi and Mitsotakis pledged to strengthen cooperation in this area. This could involve intelligence sharing, joint training programs, and collaborative efforts to disrupt terrorist networks.

This meeting underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and Greece. The focus on co-production of defense equipment, collaboration in IMEC, and enhanced counter-terrorism measures reflects a shared commitment to regional stability and economic prosperity. While details of these agreements are still under discussion, the meeting has laid the groundwork for deeper cooperation in diverse fields.
