India Issues NOTAM for Potential Missile Test in Bay of Bengal Between June 13th and 15th, 2024

India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), indicating a possible missile test within the Bay of Bengal between June 13th and 15th, 2024. The designated area for this operation is a 430-kilometer zone, though the precise coordinates remain unspecified.

While the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has not disclosed specifics about the test, industry experts speculate that it could involve the air-to-air BrahMos missile or the Rudram-III air-to-surface missile, launched from a Su-30MKI fighter jet. Both of these advanced missile systems are under active development by DRDO and have undergone previous tests.

The issuance of a NOTAM is standard procedure for such operations, alerting pilots to potential hazards in the designated airspace. This ensures civilian air traffic avoids the area during the test window, prioritizing safety.

The BrahMos, a supersonic cruise missile, is a joint venture between India and Russia and is already in service with the Indian Armed Forces. The Rudram-III, on the other hand, is an indigenous anti-radiation missile designed to target enemy radar systems.

Further details regarding the specific missile type and the exact nature of the test are anticipated to be released closer to the scheduled dates.
