In a significant push toward technological advancement in high-altitude warfare, the Indian Army has inducted 100 robotic mules, is trialing logistics drones, and is evaluating new tents designed to withstand temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius.

The robotic mules, procured under emergency provisions, are designed to navigate difficult terrains, carrying payloads of up to 15kg in extreme temperatures. They can climb stairs, traverse rivers, and operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +55 degrees Celsius, significantly improving logistical support in high-altitude areas.

Logistics drones are also undergoing trials, with the potential to revolutionize supply and movement in high-altitude regions. The CargoMax 4000Q drone, a standout performer in the recent Drone-A-Thon 2 competition, is expected to secure a contract with the Army soon. This drone, capable of carrying a 50kg load up to 10km and reaching altitudes of 6000 meters, will significantly improve the efficiency and speed of logistics deliveries to remote locations.

Addressing the critical need for suitable shelter in extreme cold, the Army is evaluating Peak Pods, a high-altitude tent designed for sub-zero temperatures. This innovative tent, capable of maintaining an internal temperature of 15°C even when the outside temperature drops to -40°C, offers a safe and sustainable housing solution without relying on fuel or electricity. It also features an inbuilt bio-toilet, making it a unique and comprehensive solution for high-altitude living.

These technological advancements demonstrate the Indian Army's commitment to modernizing its capabilities and ensuring the well-being of its personnel deployed in the world's highest battlefield, Siachen, and other challenging high-altitude locations.
