Indian Companies and their offerings in Army's 400 Towed Gun Tender

The Indian Army has issued a substantial ₹6,500 crore tender for the procurement of 400 155/52 calibre Indigenous Design Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) Towed Gun Systems (TGS), signaling a significant step towards enhancing India's artillery capabilities with domestically produced weaponry.

Several major Indian defence companies, including Bharat Forge, Adani Defence, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and state-owned Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), are set to compete for this lucrative tender.

Bharat Forge

Is likely to present two strong contenders:

  • The Bharat 52, another 155 mm/52 calibre gun system, also expected to be a strong candidate due to its weight being under 15 tons.

The procurement of 400 155/52 calibre TGS is poised to significantly bolster the Indian Army's artillery capabilities. With a growing emphasis on indigenous production under the "Make in India" initiative, this tender not only strengthens the country's defence preparedness but also provides a boost to the domestic defence industry.

As the competition intensifies, all eyes are on these defence giants as they prepare their bids. The final selection will hinge on a combination of technical capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to meet the Army's operational requirements. This tender represents a crucial step in modernizing India's artillery arsenal and promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
