Recent images circulating on social media indicate the presence of Indian-manufactured 125mm High Explosive (HE) tank rounds being used by Ukrainian forces with their T-64 tanks.

This development follows the Czech Republic's confirmation of a large order of 125mm ammunition from Munitions India Limited (MIL), a state-owned Indian defence company.

MIL secured a contract to supply the Czech Armed Forces with 80,000 120mm HE mortar shells and 50,000 125mm HE tank rounds.

While the Czech Republic is a NATO member, India has maintained a neutral stance on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The presence of Indian-made ammunition in Ukraine, therefore, raises questions about the adherence to end-user agreements and the complex international arms trade dynamics.

To address potential concerns, the Czech Republic is believed to have signed a strict end-user agreement with MIL, prohibiting the transfer of ammunition to third parties without prior consent. However, the emergence of these images suggests a possible breach of this agreement, raising concerns about the ultimate destination and usage of defense equipment.

The Indian government has not yet commented on the matter. However, this incident also underscores the intricate geopolitical landscape surrounding the conflict in Ukraine. The involvement of multiple nations and the flow of arms across borders make it a complex issue with potential repercussions for regional and global security.

As the situation unfolds, further investigation and clarification are needed to determine the circumstances surrounding the presence of Indian-made ammunition in Ukraine. The incident also raises broader questions about the responsibility of arms importing nations in ensuring the ethical and responsible adherence to end-user agreements.
