Indian Navy Conducts Critical AIP Evaluation in Germany for Submarine Upgrade

A delegation from the Indian Navy has embarked on a critical assessment process in Germany, examining the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system offered for India's ambitious submarine acquisition program, Project 75I (P-75I).

This advanced technology allows conventional diesel-electric submarines to operate underwater for extended durations, significantly boosting stealth and tactical capabilities.

The Indian Navy team's field inspection focuses on the German AIP system's efficiency, reliability, and overall performance. This evaluation is crucial in determining the optimal technology for India's next-generation submarines.

The Indian Navy's commitment to a thorough selection process is further highlighted by their planned visit to Spain. They will assess the AIP system integrated into the Spanish S-80 Plus submarine design.

This comprehensive approach ensures that the Indian Navy makes an informed decision aligned with its strategic requirements.

Strategic Importance of AIP

AIP systems offer a significant advantage to conventional submarines, particularly in littoral waters where stealth operations are paramount.

By reducing the need to surface for air replenishment, AIP-equipped submarines can remain hidden for longer, enhancing their ability to conduct surveillance, intelligence gathering, and surprise attacks.

Project 75I

Project 75I is a major initiative by the Indian Navy to procure six new-generation submarines. These submarines will be built in India with technology transferred from a foreign collaborator. The integration of an advanced AIP system is a key requirement under this project.

The Indian Navy's rigorous evaluation of AIP systems in Germany and Spain underscores the critical role of these technologies in modern submarine warfare and reinforces India's commitment to strengthening its underwater capabilities.

First sort List one of the Submarine. End this Drama which is Running for decades. Followed Drama of MRFA, Tanker fleet acquisition.

Really happy that things are moving along at a faster clip regarding P-75I SSK submarines acquisition.

I pray for a successful conclusion of contract and manufacturing in India with maximum TOT from the vendors.

Naturally German submarines are far superior in technology as they were building them from the advent of submarine technologies.
Non-magnetic tech is really great but needs constant maintenance too.

Spanish S-80+ is a bigger one and extremely automated but does not have a track record like German subs.

Finally, India may get another kind of SSK submarine and technology that may help India with its own P-76 SSK submarine.

We should avoid purchasing defence equipment from Germany.
Yeah. Moreover, I already told that if L&T will get the order, Mazagon (MDL) will face competition and probably become more efficient. Will also help in future submarine projects like P76, by fast-tracking it.

Germany Subs were in use in pakistan navy. SAAB kockums is viable multi purpose multi lengths increasable or decreasable modules available saab kockums is future ready even it shall has hollywood style marine people dive dispensing cabinet option in it were it shall be usefull in secret operations to deploy marine people dive away from its submerged submarine pressurised cabinet.

whatever Indian navy personal do it doesn’t matter, they have to decide fast.and select the submarine.

Wonder they will provide tech on non magnetic hull and AIP, if they do, there is nothing wrong in getting from just this one thing this one time.
In future conflict with china, they might refuse to sell weapons for the subs or spare parts. They have refused weapons to ukraine many times, and relented after lot of persuasion and time. Germany has a very deep financial ties with China. China is one of the largest export markets for germany, and many german companies had made billions of dollars worth of investments in CHina.

we need to make sure we localize all the spares, otherwise we will be in trouble.

Who gives maximum tot for those components which we r still not able to develop should be considered. Also if German wins then the order should be split between MDL and l&t as we can't repeat the same delay seen with p75. We need another shipyard in developing(construction)submarines and can't always depend on dpsu MDL.

that is why buying domestically is so much better. If you import, you get hooked on that country for parts and weapons for decades. It is like a drug addiction.
if we don’t have the capability , we meed to get it from somewhere else, France and Spain might also do this, they are all same.

Some countries are more flexible than others. For eg, france refused to integrate indian missiles on rafale. On other hand sweden has agreed to do the same with gripen. America has also offered to integrate indian weapons.
