A 24-year-old Indian student named Chirag Antil was tragically shot and killed inside his car in South Vancouver, Canada. Local police responded to reports of gunshots on East 55th Avenue and Main Street on April 12th, discovering Mr. Antil's body within his vehicle. The investigation remains active, with no arrests made at this time.
Chirag Antil's brother, Ronit, expressed shock at the news, describing his brother as happy and without conflict in their last conversation prior to the incident.
The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has called upon India's Ministry of External Affairs to monitor the investigation closely, ensure justice, and provide support to Mr. Antil's grieving family. NSUI chief Varun Choudhary made a public appeal via social media for urgent attention to the case.
To assist with the repatriation of Chirag Antil's body to India, the family has initiated a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe. Haryana resident and Chirag Antil's brother, Romit, described him to CityNews as a kind and gentle person, stating, "He was an extremely polite person."
In a post on X, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver expressed "great sorrow" over the death of Chirag Antil.
"We have learnt with great sorrow about the shooting and killing of an Indian national, Chirag Antil, living in Vancouver. We have approached the concerned Canadian authorities for more information in this regard," it said.
