  • The project to develop a 90-seater regional transport aircraft (RTA) for India is stalled due to a $2 billion funding requirement.
  • C.B. Ananthakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), outlines two potential designs: a clean sheet design and a derivative design based on an existing aircraft.
  • Despite funding challenges, the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) is leading the project, with HAL as the manufacturing partner.
  • The project holds significant value for India, potentially boosting its domestic aviation industry and enhancing regional connectivity.
  • Securing funding is crucial for the project's progress, with alternative financing options, private investments, or government support being sought.

Someone should ask Ambani/TATA and Adani etc. to show some real entrepreneurship and risk some of their loot for national cause.

India government has to fund and PMO should directly monitor the progress of these projects .
Foreign assistance also will be required from day one.
But given Indian fund crunch issues, governments has to spend on freebies to win elections, still a agricultural based economy , its hard to do these type of projects until and unless the government of the day made its mind and give a big push cutting across party line.

This relatively low cost , less seats , aircrafts are must to bring the cost down of flying down from smaller airports. Government is building airports in remote areas under UDAN schemes but the cost of flying from these airports are very very high , so very less people are availing the facility . These type of smaller passenger aircrafts may bring the cost down.
Indian government has to think holistically .

This project is doomed from the start. The RTA 90 is nothing but re inventing the the wheel. It is the same in every way to the tried and tested ATR 72, nearly 2000 have been built over the years we can no way equal the cost of production per unit compared to the ATR. Thats all. Same story with the saras project. Its extremely difficult to get civil rating for an aircraft.

Let ADANI spearhead the project. GOI will grant $ 2 Billion immediately. It is another matter that a Dassault / Falcon aircraft will be showed a few years later as RTA-90.

Acche din aa gaye. 6ODI hai to mumkin hai.

Maybe the GOI didn't want to throw away taxpayers money knowing HAL will be the lead project manager.

Why should they when politicians give irrational freebies making the government bankrupt. To name a few kerala, karnataka, punjab....... are all moving towards bankruptcy due to huge freebies costing billions of dollars. BTW how many jobs you have created for Bharatiyas or taxes have you paid which Amabani & Adani are creating & paying?

How much risk have you ever taken for, lets say, "Good of the Nation".
Easy to comment when someone's else's money is on line.
It is money not life. Who printed those notes and got, second who gets government favors? Certainly, you do not know source of notes. You must of went to mental coolie school of government slavery.

Where there is will there is a way. HAL market cap is 2 lac crore. If no funds being allocated, ask govt to bring rights issue for 20K crore. Invest in R&D for proposed 90 seater and also go for 15,000 KM range ~300 passenger and 16-18,000KM ~400 passenger capacity planes. India has a booming civil market. Importing or screwdriving and putting a make in India sticker will hurt.

If it’s about loot, then first we must capture all the properties of scientists and engineers working in DRDO and DPSUs and use them to fund these projects. They have been su*king taxpayer’s money with not much to show.

As for Ambani Adani and their entrepreneurship skills, they have already made billions and proven themselves. And that includes high end tech as well, like 5 G and green hydrogen. If the government can make this sector lucrative, someone will invest here as well. Say, launch a policy with a 10 year tax free regime for this sector, higher tariffs on imported planes etc. Entrepreneurship means making money at the end of the day, after all.

Farmers and poor people and DPSUs get government favors. These businessmen on the other hand fund the government by paying massive tax bills and employing lakhs and lakhs of people.
