Boeing Woos India with Customized F-15EX Jet in Fighter Competition

Boeing is pulling out all the stops to win India's massive fighter jet contract. They're offering a specially-tailored F-15EX Eagle II with upgrades just for the Indian Air Force (IAF), and the chance to use Indian-made weapons. This puts them head-to-head against rivals like the Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon for the lucrative 114-jet deal.

Boeing emphasizes the F-15EX's flexibility. While specific upgrades remain secret, they could involve avionics, sensors, or other systems to perfectly match the IAF's needs. Crucially, Boeing is also open to using Indian weapons systems on the F-15EX – a major boost to India's goal of defense self-reliance.

Boeing highlights the F-15EX's sheer power compared to the Rafale. Nearly as big as the IAF's existing Su-30MKI, it can haul a massive 22 missiles – even hypersonic ones. This firepower, plus its long-range capabilities, could be a major draw.

Cost is another selling point. Boeing claims the F-15EX is notably cheaper than both the Rafale and Eurofighter, both to buy and operate over its 20,000-hour lifespan.

One challenge for Boeing is the IAF's lack of experience with US jets. However, their existing presence in India with C-17s, Apaches, and Chinooks shows they understand the market.

Boeing's customized approach and willingness to integrate Indian weapons make this a bold play. Competition is fierce, but the F-15EX's mix of power, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability could make it a serious contender.

I don't want to join US fighter jets in Indian force...sad to say this...may be wrong...I think Sukoi Su 30mki is only suitable for dog fighting..don't know how it will perform in BVR war...Russia in Ukraine war Airplanes are not doing well...I think su 30 mki will do better for protect Indian airspace and defensive attack...definitely need rafale or f15 to enter enemy(Chinese) territory and attack...until AMCA is ready.

Su-30 is a flop in Ukraine

I feel best solution is to buy 100 of these F-15EX for a discount and sell old Russian junk like Mig 29, older Su-30 to Ukraine via Germany

US weapons come with lots of conditions. Depending on US weapons too much can result in US blackmailing India as US often does it. Imagine, US withholding essential components and spare parts of F-15EX because India won't do it's bidding....

That's why critical weapons like Fighter Jets should never be imported from US. And most of India's weapons must not be from US. USA is an unreliable partner.

Americans are not trustworthy. In time of need they will stop spare parts supply. However superior this aircraft may be, we should have our own Tejas Mk II instead of F XX.

US is unreliable but they sure make some of the best jets. And F15 is probably THE best plane all around. You can't go wrong with it, much better than the su30s. Too bad we don't have the best relations with US, I really wished we did. Pakistan is partnering with a technologically superior China and getting their weapons, we should've done the same with US, atleast for fighter jets. Where has self reliance led us? AMCA, TEDBF are dreams. Tejas program is going too slowly. And where is the HLFT-42?

I know some people will be foaming at their mouths after reading this comment, just requesting them to be civilised in their replies if they want me to read them.

Now India seriously needs 5th Generation Stealth Fighter jets. Even Pakistan is also consider to buy stealth fighter jets.

Uncle SAM in nit to be trusted with, they are no friends of India, it's only the agenda of controlling Communist China which is forcing them to cosy up to India. Look at Khalistani Nijjar and Five eyes agenda, whenever Uncle SAM finds opportunities it doesn't shy away from blackmailing. True allows or friends don't Harbour terrorists and anti nationals.

Better to go for Rafaels F4s

To deal with assertive China we need F-15 EX-II and F-XX type of fighters to complement Super Su-30MKI ! Our defence think tank must understand this !

Best option would be F21 if offered for $75-$80Mln each, much better than $300Mln Rafale., 1/4th price, easy to get 114 to complement MK2 when it is ready, F15 would be a duplicate of SU-30 once we upgrade them to Super Sukhoi.

Bharat already said this, but you are utterly out of touch with reality. Moreover, what you said is utterly nonsensical.

Firstly, the F-15EX is not going to be discounted. Boeing reported a price of 90 million USD per aircraft, but that is the cost for the USAF. Add in export profit margins and costs for India-specific enhancements, and one can easily imagine the price crossing 150 million USD.

Now, for the second part: Sell MiG-29s and older Su-30s to Ukraine via Germany? Do you realise the sheer nonsense there? Tell me this: Why should India, a nation that has remained mostly neutral on Russia,'s invasion of Ukraine and is a nation that enjoys a good diplomatic connect with Russia, alienate that friendship to help Ukraine? Until Russia's invasion comes to an end and there is peace in that part of the world, there is absolutely no chance of any arms sales to either side. This is why I am also very much against Germany's proposal to buy artillery shells from India to send to Ukraine.

The sale of artillery shells to Germany is a different issue. India doesn't have large ammunition stocks and limited production capacity, we ourselves might be reduced to begging if China attacks. Have to balance relations between Russia and the West.

Not anymore. As per recent estimates, India is presently sitting on a stockpile of at least 500,000 shells and presently has a production capacity of about 1.5 million shells per year if you consider the facilities of erstwhile OFB and the private sector combined. That's why Germany has been desperately trying to get India to supply Ukraine with 155mm artillery shells. Just recently Adani opened the single largest ammunition facility in South Asia in Kanpur. It has a initial production capacity of a million shells which has the potential to be further expanded. That factory alone at present is capable of meeting 25% of India's annual ammunition requirement and when further expanded would be capable of meeting no less than 50% of India's ammunition requirement.

"Atmanirbharta" is nothing more than a political slogan. Practically every defence project is mismanaged. From unrealistic requirements of armed forces, funding issues from Govt., underperforming R&D to poor manufacturing standards, little has been achieved.

500,000 might sound like a lot but it isn't, not in a large scale war. The production capacity is welcome but quality control has been a issue in the recent past. Shells can be supplied via intermediaries, just like the Indian companies are involved in selling western electronic components to Russia.

Su 30 is a flanker it needs a heavy f-xx fighter to complement dont pay heed to chinese bots

A superb beast, but unfortunately all the resources for a heavy twin engine jet in the IAF are currently being hoarded by the MKI.
