Indonesia has not yet made a decision on buying missiles from BrahMos Aerospace in India, a spokesperson at the country’s defence ministry told Reuters on Monday.

Multiple missile systems are being considered by Indonesia, not just those from BrahMos, spokesperson Frega Wenas said after Indonesia’s defence minister met with his counterpart from Vietnam, although he declined to name the other companies.

In 2023, BrahMos, a company co-owned by the Indian and Russian governments, told Reuters it was in advanced discussions with Jakarta on a deal worth $200 million to $350 million. “For now it is one of our considerations to review, but I cannot give an official statement when there’s no formal contract,” Wenas said on Monday.

BrahMos did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Indonesia has been in protracted talks with BrahMos to procure a shore-based version of its mid-range missiles and a version that can be mounted on warships.

Potential buyers in Southeast Asia as well as the Middle East have shown interest in the BrahMos missiles. The company clinched its first foreign deal, with the Philippines, in 2022.

Why do all Indian companies always announce deal before they actual happen. It proves to the buyer that India can't be trusted. India announces negotiations before the Indonesian government says anything to their people. It always kills the deal. Amateur hour.

Media publishes articles to generate interest and hook into comments thereby putting itself in the box seat like google. Musk has upped the practice further by appointing himself as a useful resource. It's not the actual companies themselves but leaches latching on and trying to wriggle up through your nose.

The media gets the story from someone. Some gives the "off the record" interviews. Usually, Indian politicians who want to look good or babus who want a pat on the back. It should be a crime with severe penalty to discuss military contracts, which should be state secrets. If Indonesia walks, then other countries won't even ask for a bid for Bramos because they would think it was a performance issue. For all you know, Indonesia is working with China to see what the financial terms Bramos is looking for. They will use the info to sell their systems.

I ran a tech company, this is what happens every day in modern business. That's why most big companies won't give you a price until you show the need and the ability to pay. Otherwise they don't even quote.
