Israeli Ambassador Condemns Iran's Seizure of Ship, Calls It Piracy

Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, has vehemently condemned Iran's seizure of an Israeli-linked cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, the ambassador labeled the act as "an unacceptable act of piracy," further stating, "This should not be allowed."

The MSC Aries, a Portuguese-flagged container ship owned by Zodiac Maritime of London, was seized by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy on Saturday. Zodiac Maritime is a division of the Zodiac Group, owned by Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer. The ship, carrying 17 Indian nationals, was en route from the United Arab Emirates to India.

Ambassador Gilon called upon the international community, particularly India, to unite in opposition to Iran's actions. “We expect that all the international community, especially our friends, will unite together to stop Iran’s support for terrorism and its efforts to destabilize the region," he said.

While emphasizing Israel's desire to avoid regional escalation, Gilon asserted that Israel would not remain passive in the face of aggression.

The ambassador also drew attention to the ongoing plight of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, urging international pressure on Hamas and its sponsor, Iran, to secure their release.

This incident underscores escalating tensions amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and broader regional tensions between Iran and the West.
