Johnnette Technologies Secures Historic Contract with Indian Army for Advanced JM-1 Loitering Munitions

In a significant boost to India's defence capabilities and the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) initiative, the Indian Army has awarded a landmark contract to Johnnette Technologies Private Limited. The contract entails the procurement of over 150 JM-1 loitering munitions, a state-of-the-art weapon system developed entirely within India.

Johnnette Technologies, a pioneering defence technology company founded in 2014 by retired Lt Cdr John Livingstone, has established itself as a leader in unmanned systems technology. The company's JM-1 loitering munition, designed for tactical engagements, is a testament to its commitment to innovation and high-quality aerospace systems.

Key Features of the JM-1 Loitering Munition

  • High-Altitude Precision: The JM-1 utilizes a unique AI-based algorithm, enabling it to strike targets with pinpoint accuracy at altitudes exceeding 18,000 feet.
  • Operational Flexibility: The munition boasts a maximum launch altitude of 18,000 feet and can operate at altitudes of up to 500 meters. With a range of 5 km and an endurance of up to 25 minutes, it is equipped with advanced GPS navigation and onboard computing systems for precise targeting and control.
  • Versatile Launch Methods: The JM-1 can be launched from a canister or by hand, offering adaptability to various mission scenarios.
This contract marks a historic moment for Johnnette Technologies, as it becomes the first Indian startup to secure a contract of this scale with the Indian Army. It also signifies a major stride towards achieving India's goal of self-reliance in defence production.

This contract follows Johnnette Technologies' successful delivery of their flagship tactical fixed-wing drone, the Johnnette JF-2, to the Indian Army in December 2023. The JF-2 drones have been instrumental in bolstering border surveillance operations.
