As India commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War, General (Retd.) VP Malik, the former Chief of Army Staff who led the nation's forces during the conflict, emphasized the critical importance of a self-reliant defence industry.
Speaking at a motivational seminar organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC), General Malik recounted the challenges faced during the Kargil War, including attempts by some countries to sell outdated ammunition and used equipment to India. He also highlighted the difficulties caused by sanctions following India's nuclear tests, which restricted access to essential weaponry and supplies from abroad.
General Malik stressed that these experiences underscore the need for India to build a robust domestic military-industrial base. By fostering self-sufficiency in defence production, India can ensure it is well-prepared to face future security threats and conflicts without relying on external sources.
The seminar, held to mark the 25th anniversary of the Kargil War, provided a platform for General Malik and other distinguished speakers to share their insights and experiences with NCC cadets, associate officers, research scholars, faculty, and other guests. The event aimed to inspire and educate the youth about the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers and the ongoing importance of national defence.
