Kolkata Port Could Soon Be Fixing Up US Warships

India and the US are getting serious about teaming up to repair American warships. They're looking at the busy Kolkata Port as the next spot where US Navy ships could pull in for a tune-up. This is all part of a plan to make India a go-to place for keeping those massive US Navy ships in tip-top shape throughout the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Just imagine a US Navy ship needing a quick fix while out at sea and getting directed to India for help! That might become a reality thanks to special agreements called MSRAs. Last year, a couple of big Indian shipbuilders signed these deals, and Cochin Shipyard hopped on board just last month. These agreements give these shipyards the green light to work on the world's biggest navy's ships. There's even talk about expanding the deal to Goa Shipyard.

An Indian government official explained that an MSRA basically makes a shipyard an official competitor for US Navy repair jobs. Deals like these aren't just about fixing ships; they include all the nitty-gritty about safety, who pays for what, that kind of stuff. Oh, and it's a sweet deal for Indian shipbuilders too – more work means more money!

Expanding the Network: Adding Kolkata Port to the mix is a big sign that India and the US are getting even closer when it comes to defense. And it's not just the US – back in March, even the UK's Royal Navy sent a couple of ships to India for repairs!

The Bigger Picture: All this ship repair stuff reflects the growing friendship between India and the US. They're doing tons of military exercises together, signing special defense deals, and even working on making jet engines together in India.

British entered through Kolkata. Modi has learnt nothing.

Kolkata port access seems dubious. Seedhe andaman jao udhar repair karwao andr ghuss ke repair and maintenance ku karwana hai. ❌

First time a British official came was in Jehangur’s court, in Surat. First British factory was in Surat. So how did British came through Kolkata?

Great move as this will not only bring in revenue, but also raise the reputation and technical standards of the same shipyards.

This will give US a reason to enter bay of bengal which has its benifits against china while also has the drawbacks bcoz of uncle sams mood swings

Not a bad idea. Keep china out. Its not like we can keep Americans out - they are already in Diego Garcia. But for now, our #1 adversary is China. Effectively China will think twice before carrying out any ops in Bay of Bengal

It's very important that India promotes its ship building, maintenance and repair capabilities which will be cheaper than other countries and it will attract other countries to look towards India. It will also increase business relations with Indian and any foreign country that uses our facility.

We can avoid Kolkata port, it gives US easy access to bay of Bengal and gives one more option to execute it's shenanigans. Port is near to Bangladesh, where US has traditionally supported the likes of BNP, Jamaal etc. And west Bengal itself is hotbed of extremism. While some in US like defence department might have honest intentions, the likes of deep state operatives are against us.
