Maldives President: Second Indian Military Group Departs, Fulfilling Removal Pledge

Male, Maldives – A second group of Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives has departed on April 9th. President Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement as part of a campaign event for ruling party candidates ahead of this month's parliamentary elections.

President Muizzu confirmed that this withdrawal is in accordance with a bilateral agreement between the Maldives and India. The agreement aims to replace active Indian military personnel with trained Indian civilians to continue operating military aircraft gifted by India.

Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, emphasized that remaining Indian military personnel will depart before May 10th. This would fulfill his campaign pledge to remove Indian military presence from the island nation.

Muizzu stated, "There is only one platform left... they [the remaining Indian military personnel] will also be recalled ahead of May 10. They will leave." While he did not confirm if the departing soldiers have been replaced by Indian civilians, he underscored his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.

Neither the Maldives Defense Ministry nor India have officially commented on the recent troop withdrawal. The Maldives government previously stated that 88 Indian soldiers were stationed across the Maldives to operate donated aircraft and provide medical services.

The first group of Indian soldiers departed on March 11th, with 26 soldiers replaced by Indian civilians. Relations between India and the Maldives have soured under President Muizzu, who has fostered closer ties with China.

His ego is satisfied but at what cost , mark my word that his own people would dethrone him as it is going in a deep hole with path of no return.

You may have done well for yourself. But economically, no tourists will arrive, no loan repayment reschedule and find yourself in jeopardy if you invite Chinese military to the Island. Now your choices.

The focus should be develop Lakshadweep as for Tourism & Military.
