In a significant step towards bolstering India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has successfully developed a Battery Loading Trolley for submarines in collaboration with SEC Industries, Hyderabad. This achievement marks the indigenization of a critical piece of equipment previously imported from M/s Mesursa, Spain.
The Battery Loading Trolley plays a vital role in submarine operations, ensuring the safe and efficient loading of batteries into the submarine's battery compartments. Each Scorpene submarine, currently being built by MDL, possesses two such compartments, each requiring a large number of batteries (180 in this case) to power the vessel when submerged.
This collaborative effort between MDL and SEC Industries not only reduces India's reliance on foreign suppliers but also underscores the country's growing expertise in defence technology.The indigenization of the Battery Loading Trolley is expected to generate cost savings and contribute to the growth of India's defence industrial base.
