Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a leading Indian materials research and development organization, has achieved a significant breakthrough with the development of SN-41, a nickel-based precipitation hardening superalloy.

This new material exhibits exceptional properties that promise to revolutionize high-temperature and high-stress applications in critical sectors like aerospace and defence.

SN-41's robust characteristics make it an ideal choice for industries demanding high-performance materials. Its exceptional resistance to combustion gases, combined with superior strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, positions it as a crucial material for jet engine components and missile systems.

Here are the key features of SN-41:
  • High-Temperature Strength: SN-41 maintains remarkable strength at temperatures up to 871°C (1600°F), enabling it to withstand the extreme heat generated within jet engines and during missile flights.
  • Superior Oxidation Resistance: The alloy demonstrates outstanding oxidation resistance up to 982°C (1800°F), ensuring long-lasting performance and durability in harsh environments.
  • Versatility: SN-41 is suitable for a wide range of critical applications, including turbine blades, wheels, combustion chamber liners, gas turbine nozzle partitions, petrochemical reactor components, fasteners, and missile components.
This development is a significant step forward for India's self-reliance in critical materials technology. By producing this superalloy domestically, India reduces its dependence on imports and strengthens its capabilities in strategic sectors.

SN-41 has the potential to play a crucial role in the development of advanced jet engines, like the Kaveri engine, and enhance the performance and reliability of missile systems.

Only I in the forum was continuously saying that for development of the afterburner section, BrahMos Aerospace, ISRO, GTRE & Midhani should come together to develop lightweight material that can withstand high temperatures for the Kaveri engine.

Jet engine temperature goes upto 1800° C. It is well below that level. How is it helpful?
Bro, Midhani doesn't only work for jet engines. It's a material research organization. Apart from that, such high-temp materials are useful for other parts of jets and missiles. Not every part of your fighter jet engine or missiles needs 1800 degrees Celsius.

This is a very important progress that we have made. Hopefully we can use it in our engines, missiles etc or whatever needs that strong metal.

Midhani is one who made the Stainless Steel Material equivalent to Russian material for our Cryogenic Engine their contribution in this segment is very important for us for a Great leap towards acheiving our goal for Ournown Jet enginen with 5th and 6th generation. Makenin India .
Jai Hind, Bharat Matha ki Jai.

Dear,
Your point that the temperaturess in modern jet engines reach 1800 C is right, is the progress of MIDHANI not a progress towards the target?
