In preparation for the Republic Day celebrations this Sunday, Delhi police have implemented a comprehensive security plan, deploying a large contingent of personnel and advanced surveillance technology. Over 15,000 police officers and 70 units of paramilitary forces will be on duty throughout the capital.
To ensure comprehensive monitoring, authorities will utilize drones and a network of CCTV cameras, including those equipped with Facial Recognition Systems (FRS). Moving vehicles with FRS capabilities will also be deployed. These cameras are linked to a central database, enabling the immediate identification of individuals with criminal records. Cyber-specialist officers will play a crucial role in overseeing these operations.
"We have a multi-layered security system in place, with six layers of checking and frisking, along with multi-layered barricading," a police official stated, emphasizing their preparedness for any contingency. Police teams are conducting mock drills in coordination with various security agencies to enhance their response capabilities.
Security measures extend beyond ground level, with approximately 4,000 rooftop security points established across New Delhi, North, and Central districts. Attendees of the Republic Day parade will be issued security stickers, and the parade route will be monitored by 500 high-resolution AI-enabled cameras with FRS.
"Detailed route surveys, anti-sabotage checks, and increased vigilance in high-footfall areas have been conducted," the officer added, highlighting the comprehensive nature of the security plan. Drone monitoring, CCTV surveillance, and special routes will all contribute to maintaining law and order.
To further strengthen security, a special meeting was convened with security personnel from hotels and malls to ensure their cooperation and preparedness. These extensive security arrangements aim to guarantee a safe and successful Republic Day celebration in the capital.
