Nagpur-based EEL Seeks to Develop Long-Endurance MALE Drones for Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy Amidst High Demand

Long-Endurance MALE Drones for Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.webp

Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), a private defence manufacturer based in Nagpur, is stepping up to address a critical need in India's defence capabilities. The company has embarked on an ambitious project to develop a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) under the Indigenous Design, Development, and Manufacturing (IDDM) framework.

This initiative comes at a time when the Indian Armed Forces are seeking to enhance their UAV capabilities and reduce reliance on imported platforms.

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has faced challenges in meeting the specific technical requirements for MALE UAVs, particularly those capable of operating at altitudes exceeding 30,000 feet with endurance of approximately 24 hours. This has led to a dependence on foreign-made UAVs, a situation the government aims to rectify through its "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) initiative.

EEL's MALE UAV program is directly aligned with the operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces. The combined requirement for such UAVs across the Army, Air Force, and Navy is estimated at 76 units, with the Army having the largest demand at 60 units. These UAVs are expected to play a crucial role in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, and potentially in combat support roles.

EEL's proposed platform is designed to meet stringent operational criteria, offering robust capabilities in endurance, altitude performance, and payload integration. If the project secures approval from the armed forces, it could pave the way for a domestically developed UAV system that perfectly aligns with India's strategic and tactical needs. This would reduce reliance on foreign technology, ensuring greater operational autonomy and security.

EEL's foray into UAV development demonstrates the growing capabilities and confidence of India's private defence sector. By leveraging modern technologies and working closely with the armed forces to understand their specific requirements, private enterprises like EEL are poised to make significant contributions to India's defence modernization efforts.

Very good initiative... We must expect this kind of approach from other big players like L&T and Adani... Not just copycats of foreign systems.

Good initiative. Hope Indian Tri services get this at the earliest. Kudos to Pvt players for contributing their mite for Indian Defence. Salute to all Engineers and technicians who are making this happen.

India needs to develop these drones indigenously as there will always be a requirement and need for it. We need to develop an armed version ourselves so hopefully the Archer NG will succeed. Even if the private sector manages to develop an indigenous version then it will be just as good.

What EEL has to do with drones , was expecting it to manufactures some payloads/warheads/munitions for drones...
Its like cobra commando once was posted as forest officer chasing leopord as it was attacking villagers 🙂

Serious stuff right from the handle.
