The Indian Navy has taken a major step forward in operational efficiency with the induction of two cutting-edge LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) ceilometers.
These advanced systems, developed indigenously under 'Project Megh Suchak-10' (MS10), were formally handed over to the Navy by Dr. Ajay Kumar, Director of the Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE) in Dehradun.

LIDAR ceilometers use sophisticated laser technology to accurately measure cloud base heights – a crucial element in ensuring safe flight operations. The MS10 ceilometers boast a number of impressive features, including:- Gimbal-mounted Design: Allows for 360-degree scanning, providing panoramic cloud cover data and a comprehensive view of surrounding conditions for airbases.
- Enhanced Detection Range: Detects cloud base heights up to 10 kilometers away, giving ample warning for flight planning.
