No Autoloader, But Proven Performance: Armenia Orders 72 KSSL's MArG-BR Howitzer

Recent reports suggesting an Automatic Loading System (ALS) upgrade for Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited's (KSSL) 155mm/39 calibre Mountain Artillery Gun howitzer-BR have proven inaccurate. New images confirm the presence of additional cladding for the gun barrel, clarifying earlier misunderstandings.

Despite the absence of an ALS, KSSL has secured a significant first export order for this upgraded variant from Armenia, totaling 72 units. Footage from the factory floor indicates that at least a dozen guns are already prepared for shipment, marking the initial phase of fulfilling this substantial contract.

Key Features of KSSL's MArG-BR Howitzer

  • Caliber: 155mm
  • Chassis: 4x4 wheeled for enhanced mobility in rugged terrain
  • Maneuverability: Capable of tackling gradients up to 25 degrees
  • Firepower: Designed for rapid "shoot and scoot" deployment
  • Weight: 22 tons
  • Ammunition: Compatible with standard NATO rounds and existing ammunition stocks
  • Onboard Capacity: 18 rounds with Zone 5 protection
  • Deployment Time: Combat-ready in 60 seconds, regardless of day or night
  • Firing Trials: All performance parameters successfully met

Armenia's Investment

Armenia's decision to purchase 72 MArG-BR howitzers highlights the system's appeal to nations seeking cost-effective yet potent artillery capabilities. The wheeled chassis provides flexibility in deployment and the compatibility with NATO ammunition ensures ease of resupply.

While some experts may have anticipated an ALS upgrade, the MArG-BR system remains a compelling choice within its niche. The Armenian order is likely to draw attention from other countries seeking to modernize their artillery forces on a budget.

Our foren maal import jarnails always look for excuses not to order local weapon platforms- if soldiers & ballistic missiles were available they would prefer to import even those!

I hope that India becomes Artillery manufacturing hub for export. Private Sector weapon manufacturers are impressive.

IA should consider to invest in:-
  1. Additional 200 to 300 K-9 Vajra SPGs
  2. ATAGs & it's truck mounted version for Indo-Pak Border
  3. Kalyani-ULH & it's truck mounted version for Indo-Tibet Border
  4. IFG & it's truck mounted version for Extreme High altitude

The procurement process for the army is severly broken. Trials affter trials for years just to order few hundred pieces. What bull is this.

Although they haven't developed an auto loader this mounted gun is a critical necessity as it allows us to mobilise our support and fire power quickly in whatever rough high altitude terrain vehicle and freezing cold weather. So while they should develop a auto loader India should place orders for these mounted guns to increase our fire power that we need to increase our power
