Pakistan Delegation in Urgent US Visit for IMF Loan Talks

A Pakistani delegation led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has arrived in Washington, D.C. to participate in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank spring meetings. The delegation aims to secure a new loan program with the IMF as the current standby arrangement nears completion.

The delegation, which includes the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the Secretary of Finance, and other key officials, was received by Pakistan's Ambassador Masood Khan and embassy staff.

Talks between Pakistan and the IMF are expected to begin next week. Sources indicate that Pakistan will formally request a new IMF loan program during these negotiations. This follows last month's staff-level agreement between Pakistan and the IMF on the completion of the ongoing $3 billion standby arrangement.

The IMF board is likely to review Pakistan's case in late April. If approved, Pakistan could receive approximately $1.1 billion.

The outcome of these high-level meetings in Washington will be crucial for Pakistan's economic stability as it seeks to secure additional financial support from the IMF.
