Rameswaram Bombing Suspects Used Cash Payments and False Names to Evade Capture

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two key suspects in connection with the Rameswaram Cafe bombing, following a multi-state manhunt. Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa and Mussavir Hussain Shazib were apprehended in West Bengal and transported to Bengaluru late last evening for further investigation.

Security officials have obtained crucial CCTV footage placing the suspects at the Dream Guest House in Kolkata's Ekbalpur area. The footage reveals the men checking in on March 25th and departing on March 28th, using false identities. This stay occurred prior to their move to East Midnapore district.

Investigators indicate the suspects demonstrated a pattern of frequent relocation and stayed in numerous small hotels across several states, likely attempting to evade capture. In most instances, they used cash payments to minimize their traceable activity.

Extensive searches in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh ultimately led authorities to locate the suspects in Kanthi, a small city near Kolkata. The NIA confirmed the men had been staying in a local lodge.

Taahaa allegedly masterminded the March 1st attack at the Rameswaram Cafe on ITPL Road, Brookefield, which injured 10 people. Shazib is accused of planting the explosive device.

The NIA, taking control of the investigation on March 3rd, had previously offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.

A Kolkata court granted the NIA a three-day transit remand on Friday, facilitating the suspects' transfer to Bengaluru. They will undergo routine medical examinations before appearing before the NIA court in the Karnataka capital.
