Security Forces Recover Arms Cache in Kashmir, Two Arrested for Terrorist Ties

Srinagar, Kashmir – Security forces in the Kupwara district of Kashmir seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during a targeted operation. The recovery, made possible by intelligence provided by the Border Security Force (BSF), is believed to have disrupted imminent attacks planned for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Acting on specific information, the BSF, army, and police conducted a joint search operation in the Gungbugh (Sogam) forest area. The operation uncovered a terrorist hideout containing a substantial stockpile of weapons, including:
  • Six under-barrel grenade launchers (UBGL)
  • 13 UBGL grenades
  • One improvised explosive device (IED)
  • 23 Chinese grenades
  • Five hand grenades
  • One pistol
  • One AK-47 rifle
  • Five AK magazines
  • 1,135 AK rounds
"This operation strikes a major blow against the plans of terrorist groups based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, who seek to destabilize the Kashmir Valley," a BSF spokesperson stated.

Arrests Under Public Safety Act

In the neighboring Baramulla district, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two individuals accused of involvement in terrorist activities. Ikhlaq Imtiyaz Sheikh and Irfan Farooq Zargar, both residents of Rafiabad, have been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and are being held in separate district jails.

Police allege that the pair have a history of involvement in anti-national activities, supported by multiple police reports. "This action ensures they cannot continue to threaten the state's security," stated a police spokesperson.
