Solar Industry's 125kg Bomb Clears Su-30MKI Trials, Preps for Mirage-2000

In a major boost to India's domestic defense capabilities, Solar Industries India Limited (SOLARINDS) has successfully tested its indigenously developed 125kg bomb on a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet.

Satyanarayan Nandlal Nuwal, Chairman of SOLARINDS, confirmed the milestone, marking a crucial step toward equipping the Indian Air Force (IAF) with a versatile, homegrown air-to-ground weapon.

The development of this bomb falls under the Make-II Defense Production program, an initiative aimed at fostering self-reliance in India's defense sector. Designed as a universal bomb with similarities to the globally-utilized MK-81 bomb, it is anticipated to integrate seamlessly with the IAF's existing aircraft fleet, including the Mirage-2000.

The 125kg bomb is the brainchild of the Solar Group, a Nagpur-based explosives manufacturer. The significance of this project was underscored in November 2023 when the IAF Chief personally inspected the bomb.

Following its successful trials on the Su-30MKI, the bomb will undergo trials on the Mirage-2000. Successful completion will pave the way for its potential induction into the IAF's active arsenal.

Integration of this domestically produced bomb across multiple IAF aircraft offers a significant advantage, providing Indian pilots with a reliable and indigenously manufactured weapon for a wide range of scenarios.

it seems a dumb bomb, they have fins to make sure they have a vertical trajectory. dumb bombs can be converted quite easily to guided bomb, we have a desi kit for that.

Small bombs have it's own advantages while damage would be minimal but low collateral, you can carry much more bombs on single sortie
Israel also have spice 250 (125kg)

Against bunkers or other fortification big bombs are ideal choice and we already have 500, 1000kg but against SAMs, making holes on runways, hangers even supporting ground force against enemy's well dispersed tanks, artillery bomb like this would be ideal

SDB is even smaller 113kg and it's accuracy is 3feet or less then 914mm not even 1 meter

It's big enough to tear any known main battle tank apart or even penetrate a hanger

This is a major victory for India as it cuts down on making foreign expensive imports. This is a 100% indigenously designed and developed bomb which is very powerful and I'm sure they will develop an even bigger bomb after this.

We will also need to modernise our bombs to make sure it's more accurate and has a long range where we are still developing and testing them. We need to make sure that they are precision and laser guided bombs where we input the coordinates of the target and allow the bomb to guide itself there.

Using 500, 1000, 1500 kg bombs by Russia. Its ok. But since two years, Russia could not win the war. Issue here is making the arsenal indegenously, whether it is 150 or 1500.
