Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh – A decommissioned Indian Navy TU142 aircraft, renowned for its remarkable service, has been transformed into a captivating museum.

The museum, inaugurated on March 1, 2024, in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, adds to India's collection of naval aviation museums alongside those in Visakhapatnam and Kolkata.

Kakinada's Member of Parliament, Smt Vanga Geetha Viswanath, presided over the inauguration ceremony. Visitors will now have the opportunity to explore the rich history of this long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft while enjoying the picturesque setting of Kakinada beach.

Commodore (Aviation) N Sudeep, Eastern Naval Command (ENC), highlighted the TU142's pivotal 30-year tenure within the Indian Navy.

He recounted its critical role in surveillance operations during the Kargil War of 1999, where it provided vital intelligence to support Indian forces. The TU142 was also instrumental in anti-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Aden, safeguarding crucial shipping lanes.

The museum stands not only to preserve naval history but also to celebrate the unwavering dedication of the Indian Navy and India's strategic maritime capabilities.

The TU142 museum has the potential to become a major tourist destination. It will draw aviation enthusiasts and those intrigued by India's military heritage. This new museum promises an enriching and awe-inspiring educational experience for visitors of all ages.

Time has come to buy TU-160M and TU-22M3 for IAF and IN ! UAE,India should join Russia to develop PAKDA for early induction !

An excellent step. This is the third of the eight Tu-142s that we operated to open as a museum. Sincerely hoping a few more will follow.

Tu-142 is a plane that did not have a fault and retired early due to p8i. Could been converted and used for other purposes.

The planes and technology were getting old as they were in service for 35+ years. India should study and learn how to develop these type of planes.

India should learn how to design and develop its own indigenous version by reverse engineering and studying this plane. India needs to learn how to develop its own indigenous version that can hunt submarines or converted as a long range bomber to increase our fire power in concentrated areas that jets can't do.

These classes of planes have a long life, but you are correct India should have developed these classes of plane by self as they are some of the easiest planes to develop.

The big problem is that India doesn't want to reverse engineer any technology, components, weapons or equipment that we get from Russia, USA or France etc. Until we learn how to make things or try to make it we won't know the best way in making it or learn about the requirements we need to make it. India has to see these projects as essential national requirements that we need to develop.

setup these aircraft museums in big cities, there is big demand. maybe operate a navy themed restaurant inside it.
