India's pride in its aerospace industry, the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, has become even more indigenous.
An important contract to deliver wholly indigenous DC-DC converters and EMI filters for the Tejas Mk1 aircraft has been won by Digitronics, a well-known electronics business in India.
This momentous milestone represents a substantial advancement in India's goal for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) in vital defence technologies.
Under the terms of the agreement, Digitronics will develop, produce, and provide 1500 DC-DC converters, which are the workhorses that convert and control internal electricity in aircraft, especially for the Tejas Mk1 Pylon Interface Box (PIB).
These converters are available in 50W and 65W capacities, with ruggedized characteristics such as:
- The use of self-contained thick film hybrid technology ensures reliability and redundancy for demanding aerospace and military applications.
- Designed to fulfil the strict MIL-STD-461C specifications for electromagnetic compatibility, this 300 kHz fully isolated design minimises ripple and ensures quick reaction times.
- Advanced features: conformity to MIL-STD-704D, a broad input operating range, an internal test for gentle start, strong protection against overvoltage and short circuits, and an external sync function for accurate frequency control.
This partnership goes beyond just providing components. It highlights Digitronics' steadfast dedication to using indigenous technologies to support India's defence industry. The components that are offered serve to strengthen the Tejas' indigenization and establish it as a fundamental element of India's air defence strategy.
