Top INTERPOL Official Visits India, Discusses Tackling Global Crime Challenges

Stephen Kavanagh, a British police officer and the current Executive Director of Policing Services at INTERPOL, has arrived in New Delhi for high-level talks with Indian government officials. The discussions aim to enhance international cooperation in combating global crime threats.

Mr. Kavanagh's India visit commenced with a symbolic stop at India Gate. He then engaged in bilateral meetings with senior representatives of the Indian government, including Praveen Sood, the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Key topics discussed were strengthening law enforcement collaboration and tackling challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and technology-enabled crime, including the safe use of artificial intelligence.

"India is a critical partner for INTERPOL," Stephen Kavanagh asserted during his visit. He underscored his commitment, if elected Secretary General of INTERPOL, to prioritize data, analysis, and operational success in the fight against drugs, cybercrime, and environmental crimes. Mr. Kavanagh also emphasized his vision for INTERPOL, rooted in impact, innovation, inclusivity, integrity, and professionalism.

Stephen Kavanagh is joined by a delegation including high-ranking officials from the UK, such as Acting High Commissioner of the UK to India Christina Scott. This visit highlights the deepening partnership between the UK and India in addressing transnational crime. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to swift legal assistance and the prioritization of extradition requests for fugitives.

The visit by INTERPOL's Executive Director of Policing Services underscores the importance of global cooperation in fighting complex, borderless crimes.
