Squadron Leader Dalip Singh Majitha (Retd.), a decorated Indian Air Force veteran who bravely served during World War II, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 103. Known for his exceptional flying skills and fearless spirit, Majithia passed away peacefully at his residence in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand.

Majithia, affectionately known as "Maji" by his comrades, began his illustrious career in the Indian Air Force during the tumultuous years of World War II. His extensive service included over 1,100 flying hours in legendary aircraft like the Hurricane and Spitfire fighters.

During the war, his leadership and courage were tested as he flew dangerous patrols, reconnaissance flights, and bombing missions. Majithia's exceptional leadership as flight commander of the renowned Number 4 Squadron, nicknamed "The Fighting Oorials", left an enduring mark on aviation history. His guidance propelled the squadron to become a symbol of bravery, earning recognition for their fearless actions.

Born in Shimla on July 27, 1920, Majithia's early passion for flight led him to join the IAF volunteer reserve in 1940. His remarkable talent earned him the prestigious 'Best Pilot Trophy' during his training. The Indian Air Force bid a solemn farewell to this iconic figure on Tuesday, honoring his extraordinary legacy.
