Yantra India Limited Sees Explosive Growth in 155mm Shell Exports

Yantra India Limited (YIL), a cornerstone of India's state-owned defense industry, is experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand for its 155mm artillery shells. This surge, driven primarily by growing international interest, has propelled the company into a period of rapid expansion.

Traditionally, YIL focused on meeting domestic demand, fulfilling yearly orders for approximately 50,000 to 60,000 shells. However, the company has now pivoted towards the global market, scaling up production to meet the needs of a growing clientele of international buyers. This strategic shift has resulted in a full order book for 155mm shells extending well into 2026-27, a testament to the high regard in which YIL's products are held.

This success story mirrors that of Munitions India Limited (MIL), another Indian defense PSU, which secured a landmark $225 million contract for 155mm shells with Saudi Arabia in February 2024.

Our industry also needs to focus on export of rockets, loitering suicide drones & anti-drone systems for which there is a huge & growing demand internationally.

we are not good in these areas yet, we need to make loitering munitions that are even cheaper than Iranian Saheed’a to gain market share, Iran illegally exports these kind of items to many countries in the World, mostly African, China and Russia.

It already being done with Brahmos to Philippines, Pinaka to so many countries and also artillery shells to EU countries Armenia and Russia [very secretly transferred via Tajikistan]...

There is a huge market for howitzers also that we could tap into and then local missile defense systems like Akash and others, we just need to be flexible with the pricing depending on individual Countries.
