Yunus Aide Claims Bangladesh's True Freedom Lies in Annexing Indian Bengal, Assam and Tripura...webp

A close advisor to Bangladeshi Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus has sparked controversy by suggesting that Bangladesh's "true freedom" lies in annexing parts of India. Mahfuj Alam, who serves as a special aide to Yunus and an advisor to Bangladesh's interim government, made these provocative claims in a now-deleted Facebook post.

In his post, Alam shared a map depicting an expanded Bangladesh that included portions of India's West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura states. He argued that such territorial expansion is necessary for Bangladesh to achieve true independence and liberation from what he perceived as India's "containment" and "ghettoization" policies.

Alam's post drew parallels between the 1975 coup, which resulted in the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the recent 2024 protests that led to Sheikh Hasina's departure. He framed both events as necessary steps to break free from Indian "reliance" and "hegemony." He asserted that for Bangladesh to be "truly victorious," it must "come out of its cage" by expanding its geographical boundaries, indicating a long-term vision for Bangladesh's strategic position in the region.

The controversial nature of Alam's comments led to the post's removal within approximately two hours of its publication. This swift retraction suggests an awareness of the potential diplomatic repercussions and the need to mitigate backlash from both domestic and international audiences.

Mahfuj Alam's influence in Bangladesh's political landscape is significant. Dr. Yunus himself introduced Alam as the "mastermind" behind the recent mass protests during an address at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York in September. These protests played a pivotal role in the political upheaval that resulted in the interim government taking power on August 5, 2024.

Given Alam's influential position and his role in recent political changes, his comments, even if retracted, carry weight and raise concerns about regional stability in the Indian subcontinent. His call for territorial expansion can be interpreted as a direct challenge to India's sovereignty, potentially straining relations between the two nations.

This incident underscores the complexities of South Asian geopolitics, where historical grievances and nationalistic sentiments can escalate into broader regional issues. Alam's narrative of Bangladesh needing to expand to achieve true independence could resonate with some segments of the population but also risks inflaming tensions and jeopardizing diplomatic relations.

The rapid deletion of the post might indicate an attempt by the interim government to exercise caution and avoid escalating tensions with India, especially given the existing complexities in their relationship, including issues like water sharing, border demarcation, and Bangladesh's minority rights.

Actually, military had taken over there, so they are also using same tactics as that of our failed western neighbor, provoke India to get harsh reply in back that will show their population that India is a threat and then there military will continue to take big part of IMF bail out package and generals will become billionaire and will fly to western nations. And definitely our security agencies and military is looking towards such kind of comments.

4 front war ! 3 Neighbour's, 1 internal. I am sure Bhutan and Nepal also want their share. Forgot Maldives to host Pak terrorists.

Time has come to break up much before Pakistan!!! Arakan Army should be supported and Chittagong Hills Chakma should be activated for direct action.

Hit them where it hurts them most that is economically & keep them engaged on border to deplate there finances.

Bangladesh may not start full fledged war with India, but a jihadi attack like Hamas did at Israel is almost eminent. The target will be Siliguri Corridor or Siliguri itself. By using land and air assets. The second attack will be Farakka barrage will be another.
India should immediately revive a second world War airport near Rampurhat Birbhum. (already under IAF but disused). And make it a Tejas fighter base. This airport is very important as Dacca is nearest from this airport and it's very near to Farakka and only 250 kms From Siliguri corridor.
All the airfields all along Bangladesh borders like Hasimara, Tezpur, Agartala must be on high alert. Jihadi fidain attack can't ruled out.

Pakistan ISI wants to introduce enmity between Bangladesh and India so that they can embrace Bangladesh and do all sorts of terrorist activities to get back Bangladesh, Kashmir and Khalistan so that they can break India into pieces.

Since Bangladesh is showing true colours and have joined the Jihad-hi bandwagon, India must capture the northern bulge of the country to reduce the threat to Chicken neck and all areas west of river Brahmaputra and north of Ganges passing into Bay of Bengal must be included in the greater Indian nation and Hindu minorities settled there.

Let them try. This gives India an opportunity to annexe some near bottle neck area crucial to us.
Absolute. And there will never be a 1965 Fiasco by India which signed an agreement in Tashkent to return the won over areas to Pakistan including Haji Peer, the most strategic pass. NDA will not even think to return the strategic north Bangladesh, important to eliminate for ever the Chicken Neck conundrum, if at all war is inflicted on India. Otherwise also, India should creat a situation of conflict for achieving it.
