In a significant boost for India's naval aviation ambitions, Dassault Aviation has committed to demonstrating a Rafale Marine fighter jet incorporating specific modifications requested by the Indian Navy within 18 months of the anticipated deal signing, expected next month.

This agreement paves the way for the Indian Navy to acquire cutting-edge fighter jets tailored to its specific operational needs, significantly enhancing its maritime capabilities.

The deal will provide the Indian Navy with state-of-the-art Rafale M fighters designed for aircraft carrier operations. These jets will be customized to meet the Navy's requirements, further strengthening its ability to project power and protect its maritime interests.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy will both benefit from the commonality between the Rafale variants already in service with the IAF and the incoming Rafale-M units. Both are equipped with advanced systems and weaponry, ensuring interoperability and logistical efficiency between the two services.

Key shared features include:
  • RBE2 AESA radar: Developed by Thales, this advanced radar offers exceptional detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities, optimized for various operational scenarios, including maritime environments.
  • SPECTRA electronic warfare suite: This cutting-edge system provides robust self-protection capabilities through threat detection, jamming, and decoy deployment, tailored specifically for the challenging maritime environment.
The Rafale-M has been specifically optimized for carrier-based operations, featuring a strengthened airframe, arrestor hook, and the ability to operate from short runways or carrier decks. Its versatility in carrying out a wide range of missions, including air superiority, ground attack, anti-ship warfare, and nuclear strike, makes it a highly suitable choice for the Indian Navy.

Dassault Aviation's commitment to demonstrating a modified Rafale-M within 18 months of the deal signing underscores its dedication to fulfilling India's specific requirements. These modifications will likely include enhancements in sensor integration, electronic warfare capabilities, and software systems tailored for operations in the Indo-Pacific region.

For any incremental Rafael purchase we should negotiate right to upgrade and integration of indigenous systems. A combined larger order would have made negotiations easier. Also, sign a deal for optional additional 26 numbers of Rafael M under this deal. TEDBF is a new platform it will take at least 10 years to enter production and 3-4 more years for production.

Dassault is ideal contender for MRFA to win, which can become consultant for AMCA as well TEDBF French is Only country which can meet Not only MRFA & Naval But also assist in developing AMCA engine too

What would be the point of doing that? The sale contract would already have been signed. Specifications revealed after the sale would just be advertising it to adversaries. Why the titillation for us gullible readers? Or is it a total BS article?

That’s because by the time that we receive the jets it will be ready as it will take about 3-5 years because of the back log before we even receive them. Also we only put a down payment first which secured the order and then we pay in stages as they manufacture it ready for us. So the technology will be ready way before then and without problems.

It’s better that we quickly make the deal as we have an empty carrier. Unfortunately it will still take a number of years before we receive them. This should be the last imports we make though so we better get TEDBF ready as quickly as possible as there is a large requirement for it.
