India's DRDO, through its Centre for Airborne Systems (CASDIC), is actively seeking a private industry partner to collaborate on the development and production of an advanced, indigenous Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for the Su-30MKI fighter jet upgrade program.

This strategic move aligns with India's broader "Make in India" initiative, aiming to bolster domestic defense manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. By partnering with a private industry player, DRDO seeks to leverage the expertise and innovation of the private sector to accelerate the development and deployment of this critical technology.

The indigenous EW suite is a cornerstone of the comprehensive Super Sukhoi upgrade program, designed to modernize the Su-30MKI fleet and enhance its combat effectiveness. This advanced EW system will equip the fighter jet with sophisticated electronic countermeasures, significantly improving its survivability in contested airspace and enabling it to effectively counter modern threats.

The Expression of Interest (EoI) issued by CASDIC outlines an ambitious timeline of 32 months for design and development, followed by 15-20 months for closure activities. This accelerated schedule highlights the urgency of equipping the Su-30MKI fleet with cutting-edge EW capabilities to maintain air superiority in the region.

While Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a potential frontrunner due to its extensive experience with the Su-30MKI platform, the EoI is open to all qualified private industry players, both domestic and international. This inclusive approach encourages a competitive bidding process, fostering innovation and ensuring the selection of the most capable partner to deliver this critical technology.

The development of an indigenous EW suite represents a significant milestone in India's journey towards self-reliance in defense technology. The successful completion of this project will not only bolster the Indian Air Force's capabilities but also position India as a potential exporter of advanced electronic warfare systems, contributing to the nation's economic growth and technological prowess.
