Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has appointed Ravi Kota, a seasoned leader with a proven track record in the Tejas fighter jet program, as its new Director of Operations. Kota brings over 30 years of experience to this role, where he will be responsible for driving HAL's operational efficiency and strategic growth. He will oversee the development and implementation of plans to enhance HAL's capabilities, promote indigenous production, and ensure smooth operations across the company.

Kota's appointment comes at a crucial time for HAL, as the company faces challenges with the timely delivery of F-404 engines from GE Aerospace for the Tejas Mk1A program. Overcoming these delays and ensuring the smooth production and delivery of the 83 Tejas Mk1A aircraft ordered by the Indian Air Force (IAF) will be a key priority for Kota.

Kota has a distinguished career in the aerospace and defence sector. He played a pivotal role in securing the largest-ever contract in India's defence sector – a ₹36,000 crore deal for 83 LCA Mk-1A Tejas aircraft in 2021. He also led efforts to secure a further order of 97 LCA Mk-1A aircraft, solidifying the Tejas's position as a mainstay of the IAF's future fighter fleet.

His contributions to the Tejas program have been significant, including setting up advanced production facilities, increasing manufacturing capacity, spearheading the twin-seater variant development, and promoting the use of locally sourced components. He also played a key role in enhancing the serviceability of the Tejas fleet.

As Director of Operations, Kota will focus on expanding HAL's global presence, addressing supply chain challenges, promoting technological advancements, and driving the company's digital transformation. His leadership and expertise will be crucial in guiding HAL through its current challenges and ensuring its continued success in the aerospace and defence industry.

We should ink deal with France to make 90+KN engine for Tejas-1A ! Or clear all hurdles to make GE-404 engine also in India !

As Elon says, we, HAL may in parallel enhance attention in developing AI UAVs for all three Services on their requirements.
