DRDO Unveils Algorithm-Driven Camouflage Tech to Make Assets Appear as Decoys, Successfully Tested on T-90 Tanks

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced a breakthrough in military camouflage technology.

The newly developed system uses a combination of special paint and algorithm-driven multi-spectral stickers to make military assets like tanks, artillery, and missile systems appear as decoys, effectively concealing them from enemy surveillance.

This innovative technology allows military equipment to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, making it difficult for enemy satellites, drones, and reconnaissance aircraft equipped with high-resolution cameras and infrared sensors to identify them.

The algorithms used in the system can apply up to five different stickers in military color shades that mimic common operational terrains, such as sand and grass, further enhancing the camouflage effect.

The DRDO recently conducted a successful test of the technology at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in northwestern India, using a T-90 main battle tank. The camouflage coating successfully deceived both high-resolution cameras and infrared sensors, making the tank appear as a different object altogether.

According to reports, the trial confirmed the technology's high effectiveness in reducing the detection probability of large military equipment.

This development is expected to significantly enhance India's military capabilities, aiding in covert operations, surprise attacks, and strategic repositioning of assets.

The camouflage technology is the latest in a series of innovations under the "Make in India" initiative, which aims to boost domestic defence production and reduce reliance on imports.

In recent months, the DRDO has also unveiled other indigenously developed defence technologies, including drones capable of flying at high altitudes and a lightweight bulletproof vest offering 360-degree protection.

These advancements underscore India's growing prowess in defence research and development and its ambition to become a global hub for strategic defence products.
