Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd. has achieved a significant milestone in its export endeavors by signing an agreement with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG Germany on October 3rd, 2024.

This agreement confirms the construction and delivery of the 5th Multi-purpose vessel (MPV) in a series of eight, with a total order value of approximately $108 million.

This latest contract follows an 'Option Agreement' previously signed between the two companies, which allowed for the procurement of four additional MPVs from GRSE.

Each vessel, designed to carry a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 7,500 metric tonnes, will measure 120 meters in length and 17 meters in width, with a maximum draft of 6.75 meters.

These versatile vessels feature a single cargo hold capable of accommodating bulk cargo, general cargo, and project cargo. Containers can be transported on the hatch covers, and notably, the ships are specifically designed to carry large windmill blades on deck, catering to the growing renewable energy sector.

The agreement for the 5th MPV was formally signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Mr. Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director of Carsten Rehder.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Shri RK Dash, Director (Finance) of GRSE, DIG Subrato Ghosh, ICG (Retd), Director (Personnel) of GRSE, and other senior officials from both companies.

This deal further solidifies GRSE's position as a key player in the global shipbuilding market. The company has a strong track record of delivering high-quality vessels to both domestic and international clients, including warships for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, and exports to countries such as Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Seychelles.
