Why these details are coming out now. These details should have been discussed 10 years back. 10 years back India was fascinated with Western flavour.
 
Modern Russian transport planes and engines are much better than the current Soviet planes that we use and they will be more affordable compared to anything the west will provide. Currently we are developing the indigenous Indian regional jet and it’s possible to convert that into a military version if we wanted to but it will take a long time. We need a low cost indigenous plane for internal travel which will increase.
