The Indian Air Force's (IAF) No. 45 Squadron, affectionately known as the "Flying Daggers," was formally awarded the President's Colours in a ceremony on March 8, 2024. To celebrate this prestigious honor, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), visited the squadron on May 25, 2024.
The President's Colours is the highest recognition bestowed upon an IAF unit, signifying its unwavering commitment, exceptional flying skills, and exemplary service to the nation. The "Flying Daggers" have a rich history dating back to their operation of Vampire jets and their transition to the modern Tejas aircraft.
The squadron has participated in numerous critical operations throughout its history, including the 1965 and 1971 wars, air defence operations following the Balakot incident, and various national and international exercises. Their extensive operational experience and dedication to duty have earned them this well-deserved recognition.
During the celebratory visit, CAS Chaudhari addressed a gathering of both current and former squadron members, praising their dedication and urging them to continue their exceptional performance. He was joined by Air Marshal B Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Air Command (AOC-in-C, SAC), and other senior IAF officers.
The "Flying Daggers" exemplify the continuous evolution and unwavering dedication that have become synonymous with the Indian Air Force. Their receipt of the President's Colours serves as an inspiration to the entire IAF, reinforcing the importance of duty, honor, and service to the nation.
The President's Colours were presented by President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, on March 8, 2024, at Air Force Station Hindan, Uttar Pradesh.
