NEW DELHI – In a significant boost to its defence capabilities, India successfully conducted a flight test of the Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced the achievement, highlighting the system's effectiveness in intercepting and neutralizing a simulated enemy ballistic missile.

The test involved launching a target missile from the LC-IV Dhamra, which was promptly detected by land- and sea-based radars, activating the AD Interceptor system. Subsequently, an AD Endo-atmospheric missile was fired from LC-III at ITR Chandipur, successfully intercepting the target.

The Phase-II BMD system boasts a sophisticated network-centric architecture, incorporating long-range sensors, a low latency communication system, a mission control center, and advanced interceptor missiles. This successful test not only validates the system's performance but also demonstrates India's growing prowess in ballistic missile defence technology.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO for this accomplishment, emphasizing its contribution to bolstering India's defence capabilities. The test marks a crucial milestone in safeguarding the nation against ballistic missile threats and reaffirms India's commitment to maintaining a robust and multi-layered defence system.
