Indian Army Unveils Pioneering Skin Bank for Enhanced Medical Care

The Indian Army has launched a groundbreaking skin bank at the Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi, marking a significant advancement in the treatment of severe burns and skin-related conditions for service personnel and their families.

This state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind within the Armed Forces Medical Services and aims to revolutionize care by providing a centralized hub for the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of skin grafts.

Staffed by a team of highly trained medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers, and specialized technicians, the skin bank adheres to the highest standards of quality control and safety. This ensures the integrity and reliability of the skin grafts, providing patients with the most effective and personalized treatments.

Lieutenant General Arindam Chatterjee, Director General Medical Services (Army), emphasized the army's unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of its service members, stating that the facility "will not only enhance the quality of care we provide but also strengthen our ability to support those who have been affected by devastating injuries."

Lieutenant General Ajith Nilakantan, Commandant of the Army Hospital (R&R), highlighted the significance of the skin bank, calling it a "significant leap forward in our ability to treat severe burns and other complex skin conditions." He expressed confidence that the dedicated resource for skin tissue will improve patients' chances of recovery and rehabilitation.

The skin bank is expected to serve as a critical resource for military medical centers across the country, ensuring that service personnel and their families have access to the most advanced skin replacement therapies. It is a testament to the Indian Army's continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and cutting-edge medical care for its personnel.
