Indian Army Unveils Tractor-Mounted Anti-Tank Missile System in 'Jugad' Innovation

The Indian Army has once again demonstrated its ingenuity and adaptability by developing a tractor-mounted anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system, showcasing the concept of 'Jugad' – a Hindi term for ingenious improvisation. This innovative solution leverages a modified tractor as a mobile launcher for Konkurs-M ATGMs, significantly enhancing the army's anti-tank capabilities.

The Improvised Tractor Mounted ATGM, as it is aptly named, is capable of carrying four Konkurs-M missiles, ensuring quick reloading and sustained firepower during combat operations. The Konkurs-M is a second-generation ATGM designed to neutralize armored vehicles, including those equipped with explosive reactive armor. Its versatility allows it to be launched from both BMP-II tanks and ground-based platforms, providing tactical flexibility in various combat scenarios.

With a range of 75 to 4,000 meters and a flight time of 19 seconds, the Konkurs-M offers a formidable advantage in engaging enemy armor at varying distances. The tractor platform, while unconventional, proves to be a cost-effective and mobile solution, allowing for rapid deployment and increased ATGM availability in the field.

This 'Jugad' innovation aligns with the Indian military's long-standing tradition of modifying and adapting existing equipment to meet specific operational needs. Such resourcefulness not only addresses logistical challenges but also fosters a culture of self-reliance and problem-solving within the armed forces.
