Jammu & Kashmir Police Reward Local Resident for Key Role in Drone Recovery

Jammu and Kashmir Police have recognized a local resident for their vital contribution to maintaining security, awarding them Rs 3 lakh for providing information that led to the recovery of a Pakistani drone. Their actions highlight the strong partnership between law enforcement and the community in countering border threats.

On Thursday, a felicitation ceremony jointly organized by the Samba Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), recognized the civilian's contribution. Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Vinay Kumar, presented the reward on behalf of the ADGP Jammu Zone. High-ranking officials, including IG BSF D.K. Boora and DIG BSF Jammu Sector Chitter Pal, were in attendance.

The incident highlights the effectiveness of the Jammu and Kashmir Police's recent policy, encouraging civilians to report suspicious activities to combat security threats.

On January 18th, 2024, a resident of Nandpur village, near the Chamliyal Border Out Post (BoP), discovered a suspicious object in their field. Suspecting nefarious activity, they promptly alerted the nearest BSF unit (148 Bn). This information allowed security forces to quickly locate and recover a Pakistani surveillance drone equipped with a camera.

SSP Vinay Kumar underscored the crucial role played by public awareness and cooperation in fighting narco-terrorism, a serious security threat fueled by Pakistan. He reminded the public of the various reward schemes announced by the DGP of J&K for those who provide intel regarding cross-border tunnels, narcotics, drones, and terrorist activity.

The timely collaboration between a vigilant citizen and proactive security forces in the Ramgarh sector sets a positive example. It demonstrates the effectiveness of community policing and highlights the importance of public awareness in safeguarding India's borders against threats such as Pakistani drones and narco-terrorism.
