Pune: The National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune marked a significant step towards self-reliance in aviation training with the inauguration of an indigenously developed static simulator for the Super Dimona aircraft on Tuesday. Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, Commandant of the NDA, officiated the ceremony.

Developed at the Indian Air Force's Software Development Institute, with contributions from local industries, the state-of-the-art simulator underscores the nation’s commitment to the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The simulator boasts advanced features including a 135-degree field of view immersive display and realistic flight dynamics software, providing cadets with an authentic aerial experience.

The Super Dimona, an Austrian multi-utility aircraft, plays a vital role in introducing sixth-term Air Force cadets to powered flight. The new simulator will enhance their training by familiarizing them with aircraft systems, procedures, and techniques before their actual flights. The NDA release emphasized that this addition will significantly elevate the overall training standards and proficiency of Air Force cadets.

Currently, trainees fly a total of 10 sorties as part of their syllabus at the NDA. The simulator is poised to play a key role in preparing these future pilots, ensuring they are well-equipped to transition seamlessly into the rigorous training programs of the Indian Air Force.
