Russia's leading annual foreign policy forum, the "Primakov Readings," is set to convene in Moscow on June 25-26, 2024, under the theme "Russia in the Global Context." The forum will delve into the priorities of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) in light of Russia's presidency of the group in 2024, as well as address the broader shifts in the global landscape.
The event will be attended by prominent figures including Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Yury Ushakov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, and leading Russian and foreign experts in international relations, security, economics, and public policy. Several Indian experts are also expected to participate.
This year's forum holds special significance as it coincides with the 95th birth anniversary of Yevgeny M. Primakov, a former Russian prime minister and esteemed statesman. The forum's main program will open with a session dedicated to his scientific and political legacy.
Discussions at the forum will focus on various key topics:
- BRICS's role in shaping a new global economic architecture.
- The dynamics of interaction among countries within Greater Eurasia.
- Security concerns in the Baltic region and the impact of current crises on European security.
- The significance of culture in international relations.
President of IMEMO, Dr. Alexander Dynkin, explained the choice of theme, stating, "Over the past nearly 10 years, we have discussed global issues: the risks of a return to confrontation, the horizons of post-globalisation, the rise of Eurasia, the peculiarities of the post-Covid world, and more." He emphasized the forum's role in anticipating and analyzing the evolving global order.
Dr. Dynkin also highlighted the resilience of the Russian economy in the face of unprecedented sanctions, attributing it to a deep understanding of Russia's realities and the ability to adapt to global shifts.
The "Primakov Readings" is organized by the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO), Russian Academy of Sciences; the Primakov Centre for Foreign Policy Cooperation; the World Trade Centre; and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
