ULFA Chief Paresh Baruah Seeks to Revive Separatist Group Amid Myanmar Instability

Paresh Baruah, the outlawed and self-exiled leader of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), is reportedly attempting to revitalize the separatist organization amidst the ongoing political instability in Myanmar.

According to reliable sources, Baruah, currently based along the China-Myanmar border, has recently restructured the ULFA's governing council and assumed the leadership of the outfit's "foreign cell."

Experts on secessionist movements in Northeast India suggest that Baruah's efforts are driven by the Myanmar Army's waning influence in the border regions and the subsequent rise of local rebel groups. These ethnic rebel outfits are allegedly procuring arms from China, and Baruah, despite the ULFA's weakened state, is seeking to exploit the turbulent situation.

Historically, Baruah has maintained close ties with Pakistan and is believed to be operating from China near the Myanmar border. His recent actions raise concerns about potential renewed activity from the ULFA, a group that has been largely dormant in recent years.
