Aartech Solonics Limited, in partnership with the Indian Army's Sudarshan Chakra Corps (EME) and IIT Mumbai, has developed a groundbreaking innovation: the Adaptive Alternate Power Module (AAPM).
This indigenous technology is set to revolutionize power management in Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) and artillery systems, including the K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzer.
The AAPM provides regulated DC power to military vehicles and artillery systems without requiring the main engine to be running. This eliminates the need to switch on the main engine to power onboard systems, offering significant advantages in operational efficiency and fuel conservation.
Compatible with a wide range of armored vehicles and artillery platforms, including the K9 Vajra, a key asset in the Indian Army's arsenal, the AAPM is particularly beneficial for operations in challenging environments where fuel efficiency and equipment reliability are paramount.
By reducing reliance on the main engine for power generation, this technology ensures quieter operations, lower heat signatures, and a smaller logistical footprint – all crucial advantages in modern warfare scenarios.
Furthermore, it is designed to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from +60°C to -30°C, making it suitable for deployment across diverse terrains, from deserts to high-altitude regions.
The development of the AAPM highlights the success of collaboration between industry, academia, and the military. Aartech Solonics, with its expertise in energy management, partnered with IIT Mumbai for technical inputs and the Sudarshan Chakra Corps (EME) for field-level insights and testing. This collaborative effort aligns with India's Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative, promoting self-reliance in defence technology.
The AAPM is poised to be a game-changer in armored vehicle power management. Its widespread adoption is expected to enhance the Indian Army's operational efficiency while reducing costs associated with fuel and maintenance, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and capable fighting force.
