In a powerful demonstration of joint combat readiness, India is set to launch a major tri-services military exercise named 'Poorvi Prahaar' in the eastern region on November 8th. This 10-day exercise comes in the wake of the recent disengagement between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh and signifies a strategic shift towards a more proactive defense strategy.
'Poorvi Prahaar' will witness the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force operating in synergy, deploying a wide array of assets. The Army will field units alongside artillery guns, Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The Air Force will contribute with its formidable Su-30 MKI and Rafale fighter jets, C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, and various helicopters. Air Force bases in Kolkata, Hashimara, Paanagarh, and Kalaikunda will be activated, while the Indian Navy's elite MARCOS commandos will also play an active role.
"The exercise is aimed at testing the synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, strengthening our operational preparedness and defence posture in the eastern sector," a senior defense official told.
This tri-services exercise follows the recent disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops at Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh. While dialogue continues for de-escalation, India is simultaneously bolstering its joint combat capabilities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Sources indicate that negotiations are underway to restore Indian patrolling rights in the Yangtse region of the Tawang sector, access to which was restricted for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) after a clash in December 2022.
“Along with ongoing dialogue with China, India is upscaling its joint combat capabilities along the LAC,” a source revealed. “This dual approach strengthens India’s leverage in pursuing a peaceful resolution, showing that we are prepared to defend our sovereignty.”
