The Indian Army has successfully concluded a rigorous 12-week training program for the Tanzanian People’s Defence Force (TPDF) Mechanised Infantry at the Mechanised Infantry Centre & School (MIC&S) in Ahmednagar.

The comprehensive course, which ran from July 1 to September 24, 2024, focused on providing TPDF soldiers with the technical know-how, operational proficiency, and tactical acumen needed to effectively operate and maintain the Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) BMP 2.

The training program encompassed a wide array of subjects, ranging from the technical intricacies of the ICV BMP 2 to its maintenance procedures and tactical deployment. Through hands-on instruction and practical exercises, TPDF soldiers acquired invaluable experience and expertise in handling this sophisticated armored vehicle.

This collaborative endeavor represents a significant stride in bolstering the capabilities of the TPDF and solidifying the defence cooperation between India and Tanzania.

Why do they (Tanzania) need infantry combat vehicles (ICV)?
Its mechanised infantry training hence the ICVs. Plus Tanzanian forces use mostly soviet era and Chinese equipment (including their mechanised infantry ones) which have similar design and battle tactics philosophies as our BMPs.
