In a landmark decision, Maharashtra is set to become the first Indian state to purchase land in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. The state government plans to construct a dedicated tourist facility, "Maharashtra Bhavan," on 2.5 acres of land in Budgam, near Srinagar Airport.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, recently revealed plans for two Maharashtra Bhawans, one in Srinagar and another in Ayodhya, with a budget allocation of ₹77 crore. These facilities aim to provide enhanced services to tourists and pilgrims.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has approved the land transfer for ₹8.16 crore, paving the way for construction to begin. This historic move was initiated after Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's visit to the region last year.

Maharashtra Bhavan is expected to cater specifically to tourists from Maharashtra, offering accommodation, cultural experiences, and potentially serving as an information hub. The project signifies a significant step in inter-state collaboration and the potential for increased tourism and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.

This historic land acquisition marks a new era of possibilities for investment and development in Jammu and Kashmir. It showcases the potential for increased interstate collaboration and the growing appeal of the region as a tourist destination.
